"am i living a fantasy?"

The Zia Fantasy trilogy is a concept-driven series featuring three EPs: Luna, Isra and Noor. The body of work invites the listener on a journey that carries one through normalcy, darkness and eventually into the (divine) light. Written and recorded during the initial months of the pandemic, these songs are the band's reflection on and artistic expression of the zeitgeist of 2020.

In the words of songwriter, guitar player and vocalist Liam Christian, "The EPs each represent the past, present, and future, as we felt it then, or similarly, a beginning, middle, and end of the pandemic. It communicates this in quite obvious ways at times, such as the sonic landscapes of each EP, the first (Luna) being bright and somewhat whimsical, the second (Isra) a little deeper and more brooding, and finally the third (Noor), a mixture of both."

Songs like "Theresa" and "Thistle Toe" showcase Minaxi's textural and melodic capabilities, while "It's Got Me" taps into the dynamics of the band's sound culminating in a cathartic, noise-laden feedback. The sufi influence is evident in the 7-minute, vocal-led composition, "Naina". The atmospheric mix of the Indian raaga and reverb consummates the narrative arc of "Luna".

"Isra" explores the dark side of human emotion. "Smile" and "Grace" express loss whereas "Intezaar" is about longing for a time once held dear. "B" is a commentary on the current state of affairs surrounding the pandemic. The narrative arc of Isra is consummated by "Listen", an atmospheric journey with empathy as the protagonist.

Then on "Noor", you experience a sense of euphoria and the feeling a new dawn, the first rays of the sun following a lengthy darkness. "Full of Love", "Sehra" and "Leaving Feeling" tap into this rejuvenating feeling while "Bug" calmly envelopes you into its thick blanket stitched together with guitar textures and atmospheres. "Yellow Waving" ends the EP encompassing the overarching sonic palette of the songs on "The Zia Fantasy" trilogy.
